We are excited to announce a new complimentary 30 days of pet insurance from our partner,
PetFirst is introducing a new adoption insurance program to all Petfinder member
organizations that provides a complimentary 30-days of Pet Insurance for all dogs and
cats adopted. This program is available in all US states and Washington DC, but not NY at
this time. The program is also currently unavailable in Canada.
The 30-day coverage plan ensures the pets you adopt out are covered for accidents and
illnesses. This plan provides $1,000 aggregate/ $500 per-incident limit of accident and
illness protection. It reimburses 100% of vet bills after a $50 per-incident deductible.
Adopters have the option to extend or upgrade their coverage at the time of activation.
There is no cost to the adopter or to your organization for this 30-day protection.
To activate the insurance, pet parents must call 1-855-710-7387. The insurance is not
active until the adopter activates it, and is not retroactive to the date of the
adoption. Once their insurance is active, they use the veterinarian of their choice and
submit their bills for reimbursement, which PetFirst processes in as little as two weeks.
Please encourage adopters to extend their coverage. PetFirst data shows 63% of claims
occur after the 30-days following adoption. Extending protection helps keep pets in their
homes by mitigating returns for health-related issues and alleviating financial strain on
adopters due to high veterinary bills.
If you have any questions about the PetFirst adoption insurance program, or would like
leaflets to provide to your adopters, please contact Chelsea Mull with PetFirst at [email protected]
